Day 22
Staying home, day in, day out. This abrupt new reality has given most of us extra time to think. Here’s a thought on yoga that popped in my mind today as I sat nonchalantly on my mat:
For us, yogis, living inside is a familiar business… We’ve been willingly training ourselves to “live” inside, to settle in our bodies and selves… For us, the “inside” is a place to go back to when things in the outside get tough. It’s a place to draw stability and joy when the world is falling apart.
How lucky we are, now that our lives as we know them are falling apart, to be able to find within us an anchor of stability, of reason. To always have this anchor handy, simply by unrolling the mat. Until we meet again in the big blue, unroll your mats, unroll yourselves and do what you know best. To live inside.
Day 26
Extra time to think. Today I had this thought on cooking as I was making a cake. Cooking is meditation! It’s a great way of focusing in the present time and keeping your mind engaged. And it comes with a bonus; at the end, you can eat your meditation! Here’s the story of my meditation cake:
The absolute leftovers cake!
Many can pull off a good cake, but the one I made today I am damn proud of. It is made with whatever was left in my cupboard and in my heart… After tweaking a few recipes to match my ingredients, I poured in a carrot, a banana, a couple of eggs, Serifos honey, oat flour, coconut and olive oil, ground walnuts, spices, some anger, a lot of frustration and loads of love for my quarantine babies. The cake rose beautifully and came out fluffy, moist, super tasty and just a bit sweet. Anger and frustration had completely evaporated in the making. Cake saved my quarantine day!
